Are You Seeking a Deeper Connection with God?
- In a world of noise and distraction, it's easy to feel pulled away from the spiritual life.
- The battle for our attention, our purity, and our peace is real.
- You know there is a call to something more—a life not of the flesh, but of the Spirit.
- A life of authentic freedom, clarity, and purpose.
This is not a journey we are meant to walk alone.
The St. Paisios Brotherhood is excited to invite you to a transformative series on Spiritual Formation, designed specifically for Orthodox men seeking to answer Christ's call to "repent"—to transform their entire being.
About the Spiritual Formation Series
This series is a guiding light, rooted in the ancient, proven wisdom of the Church Fathers and the Holy Scriptures. We will walk together through the practical steps of healing and growth, moving from a life dominated by passions to one guided by the Spirit.
You will explore essential themes such as:
- The Path to Purification (Catharsis): Learning to identify and reject sinful thoughts before they become actions.
- Mastering Nepsis (Watchfulness): Gaining control over your mind and reactions through constant, loving attentiveness.
- The Freedom of Forgiveness: Releasing the poison of resentment and anger that holds your soul captive.
- Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit: Actively embracing love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control.
- The Power of the Jesus Prayer: Discovering the path to inner stillness (hesychia) and unceasing prayer.
This is a battle for your soul, but you do not fight it unarmed. Come and be equipped with the tools given to us by Christ and His Church.

Your Guide: His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah
We are profoundly grateful and blessed to have this series guided by the wisdom of His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah, a shepherd known for his deep spiritual clarity, pastoral heart, and unwavering orthodoxy.
Metropolitan Jonah is a revered hierarch and teacher whose life has been dedicated to the spiritual renewal of the faithful. As a former Abbot and a Doctor of Theology, he possesses a rare gift for translating the profound ascetic teachings of the Church into practical, actionable guidance for modern life. His approach is direct, compassionate, and rooted in a fatherly love that seeks nothing but the healing and salvation of those in his care.
He understands the struggles faced by men today and speaks with a voice of authority, humility, and hope, calling us all to the highest measure of love—the love of Christ.
In October of 1994, having returned from Valaam, then Deacon Jonah was ordained to the Holy Priesthood as a hieromonk, serving as a mission planter based in Merced, CA. At the end of 1995, after the Abbot of Valaam Archimandrite Pankratiy came to the States, we met with Elder Ephraim. At that meeting, Fr Pankratiy and the Elder gave the blessing/obedience to start a monastery. St John of San Francisco Monastery was then established in 1996 in Point Reyes Station, California. It grew substantially, and needed a new location, which was found in Manton, CA, 250 miles to the north on Mount Lassen. The community quickly doubled to over 20 men. We had the advantage of immense support, advice and guidance both from Elder Ephraim and Elder Kyrill (Pavlov) from Russia. Abbot, then Archimandrite Jonah, was called to the Episcopate in 2008.
Fr Jonah was consecrated as Bishop of Fort Worth, vicar to Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas, of blessed memory. That only lasted 11 days, as on November 12, 2008, he was elected Metropolitan, First Hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America, and sent to New York, then Washington. That lasted four years, when he “retired” and entered the Russian Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).
He soon took on pastorship of St Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Stafford, VA, where he continues as the Rector. In 2020 we formed St Demetrios Monastery in Spotsylvania, Virginia, 60 miles south of Washington DC , serving as Abbot. He assists the Metropolitan of ROCOR with parish visits, ordinations and whatever is needed. He also has an active teaching ministry, both for seminaries as well as other weekly classes for the parish and for St John the Baptist Cathedral, DC, that are recorded and available on Youtube. He has an active ministry to many people all over the country and beyond.
